I'm pretty sure the 29 spline uses a different carrier. Might talk to an axle manufacturer to be sure.

honestly the 27 is only an issue if you are build the axle as it does not have has many hop up parts

Don't spend the money on alloy shafts. I ran 33's and 34's on a 27-spline lunchbox locked 8.25 for years, wheeling HARD. I sold that axle when I swapped in an 8.8. The guy I sold the 27 spline to put 35's on and ran that way for another couple years. He did finally break a shaft, but it was in a crazy, stupid spot. We popped in another shaft, and it's still running strong today.

YMMV, but I've done a lot of wheeling and the 8.25 is an underated option, 27 or 29 spline.
