Chopped Liftgate
Have any of yall with chopped cherokees managed to convert the liftgate to a tailgate? I have seen some threads where folks have fabbed in tailgates from Comanchees. That is still an option as soon as I find one at the jy. Until then, I would like to either side hinge or bottom hinge my current chopped liftgate piece. Thanks in advance for any info.

I have the watertight part figured out. I will post more pics of that I am trying to accomplish as soon as I get off work. Basically, I want to be able to go from Cherokee to Comanche at will. This is where I am at now.

Thanks. It has a 3" rough country on it. I still have to fix the sagging rear springs, then I am going to trim the fenders and stuff 33's under it.

I was considering the shackles. Eventually I will have to replace the main lift springs. This project is far from done. Eventually i have to add more pieces to the cage, replace the seats, add more lights, etc. All as time and cash flow permit. Government housing on base prohibits us from working on our vehicles at home, so that slows things up too. Alot of midnight flashlight ops.

Probably going to cut them after the holidays. I have to search for how to do the rears properly. I am still stumped on how to convert to a flip down tailgate using my existing hatch piece.

as far as your hinging your tailgate matter goes.... all i can say it don't bother with the older body style fiberglass rear hatch, they will flex and break too easily.... be patient and wait for a comanche tailgate to come your way.. Hell if you are/were close enough i could give ya one

Its on topic, just wait for it.
I'm doing a chop top on my bronco 2 and i plan on using a ranger tailgate. But i had thought about (and still might) making a tubular tailgate with built-in tire carrier. I don't know if it being open is a problem for you but i think it would be cool and probably about the same cost as a tailgate from a jy. You could even skin it and put some weather stripping to make it semi water tight. Here's the idea. See, on topic.
If you don't want to lose any "bed" space.
