I ran the comp cam for a couple of years until a lifter collapsed and wiped the lobe. Swapped in another motor pending a stroker build on the first one. My advice, if you do it, make sure your oil journals in your engine all flow well and there's no clogs, follow the break in procedure, and get stiffer valve springs.

Let's not let this thread turn into a "smog" thread.
I was just warning the OP about emissions testing as a cammed motor might not pass. NY is a bit of a "nanny state".

here is a pretty good thread on cams.

One day I plan on running the Mopar 228 or 229 cam in my 4.0

When you swapped the cam did you get the whole comp cam kit like the previous poster had suggested or did you just run a cam? I'm curious if the springs in the kit are strong enough or if someone is bound to run into your problem again. i know these a re literally tractor motors out of the 60's but every little bit helps and cams are probably the biggest producers short of super/turbo charging, stroker rebuild or dun dun dun nitrous. (which i wonder if anyone has successfully run nitrous Oxide in a 4.0)

Thank for clearing that up. Knowing what you know now what would you have done differently? Springs obviusly but would you run a comp cam again?
