I have been doing a lot of reading on bump steer and one of the big things I have learned is that the pitman arm and track bar should be parallel. When I hit a bump in the road my Jeep likes to wander around and it can get a little white knuckle. After seeing the great writeup on Quadratec's site, I went out and looked at how my Jeep is setup. I know i have posted this pic before, but it looks to me that the pitman arm sits lower than the track bar and there is no way that they are parallel. How do i fix this? Do i need to lower the track bar on the driver side or come up with a way to raise it on the passenger side?

lowering the frame side track bar mount would probably be the easiest for you. you will never be 100% perfect with the stock steering setup. but it will help.

So I guess it is time I seriously look at upgrading my steering?

its not a bad idea, but it gets pretty involved if you want it to be perfect.

try lowering the track bar mount first, see if it makes it livable

No need to invest in a new trackbar mount.

Get rid of the Drop Pitman Arm (DPA) and install an OEM pitman arm, then your DRAGLINK and TRACKBAR will be much closer to being parallel.

How can I tell if it is a drop pitman arm? I am trying to fix the stuff the previous owner "upgraded".

I just measured the pitman arm on my Jeep. Looks like it is about 6" drop. This is the trackbar that is on the Jeep. It says that it requires a drop pitman arm. What is the drop of a stock pitman arm?http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xtras_1079.html

A drop pitman is arm is only needed if your draglink needs to be lowered to get it parallel with the trackbar.

This is what I mean....

Anything else and you run the risk of having bumpsteer.

As far as the amount of drop on an OEM pitman arm....Google image search.

I just ordered an OEM pitman arm. Looks like I need to raise the pitman arm side about 2-2 1/2" to get the draglink and track bar parallel.

Hey can I buy your old drop pitman arm? Haha I need one. Oh and do not get the Ruty's Steering. I eat TREs like crazy. It is almost impossible to get it to stay alligned as well.
