As my XJ is now, I don't have any front recovery points. I have a boa extreme front bumper, but it didn't come with any hooks or d-rings.

So I like the way the bumper looks and it offers plenty of protection so instead of fabing an entirely new bumper I had this idea. The bumper is attached to the frame via a T shaped bracket on each side as seen on the box in this pic

I was thinking I could fab some L shaped d-ring mounts, bore two holes in them and bolt them to the bumper using the outside set of bolts on each side. Additionally, the bumper needs mounting brackets that extend further back on the frame to be able to handle the stress of getting a yank. That would be a simple matter of fabing some new heavier and longer mounts. My questions is, do you think this system will hold up to the rigors of yanking or will it just peal the d-ring mount tab off the bumper?

When I do a winch, it will be a multi-mount system as I have been in situations where forward wasn't an option. Besides I still want some recovery points.
I realize the mounts will have to be redone.

I don't want to weld anything to the bumper as it has a nice powder coating on it. If bolting on d-ring mounts isn't going to be strong enough i'll just sell this one and fab a new one.

Yeah, I'd say get some frame tie in brackets. Use those in addition to the mounts for the bumper. As for D-ring mounts, I don't think that bumper made to have them mounted onto it.

May be a good idea. Especially on cherokees because of the Uni-body making sure the d rings are well made and braced is pretty important. I've seen some homebrew engineering d ring mounts get ripped off on the trail and the end result is never good. It wasn't pretty.
