So far I have had good luck with my Milestar Patagonia's MT. For around 120 dollars each it is hard to beat them. Even got a set of AT's for the wife's suburban (daily driver) and are happy with them too. Just remember you cant compare economy priced tires with top tier tires that are nearly double in price.

I am running Cooper Discoverer A/T3 tires and have been pleased with them. I have not had the chance to test their off road capabilities yet but think I will be pleased.
another option which I've tried and liked is retread tires. They have a bad rap but technology has come a long way treadwright and tirerecappers are the two big ones
Treadwrights are too expensive for what they are, you can get brand new tires for the same price or $10-20 more per tire. Tire recappers are more affordable but I don't like their tread patterns.

x2...as a former tire salesman, i would have never recommended them. We wouldnt get commission or anything like that, so i would just recommend you a tire based off the factors you would give me...treadwrights would have never been an option. Too expensive for what you get. There are much better options in the same price ranges
Look at the Goodyear Authority from Walmart. I have them on my DD Cherokee. Walmart lists them on their site at $160 a tire, but look out for sales. I paid $125 for mine 2 years ago. IIRC for about $20 a tire I got them mounted, a road hazard warranty, and free balancing and rotation for life. I really love these tires.
The tread is like an aggressive AT, kind of between an AT and MT. Being my daily I needed a good all around tire...especially good in the snow. I have about 10K miles on them and they show no wear. They do hum slightly on the highway, but it's minimal. Not enough to annoy or interrupt conversation. Radio at normal listening level covers the hum. I have done some mild trail/woods riding with them and they did better than expected. Even in some muddy sections. Where they really shine though is in the snow. Great at normal pressures, but even better if aired down a bit. We got hit with a surprise 6" of snow last week. NY/NJ usually pre-treat and have plows out ready to go before a storm hits. For some reason they blew this storm off. No salt, no plows, and closed roads everywhere with idiots who shouldn't be driving crashing into each other. I dropped the pressure down to 25psi and got on the highway doing a steady 40mph comfortably passing all the idiots sliding all over at 10mph. I tried a few hard starts and panic stops and it just stuck to the road. At one point the highway was closed due to an accident and after sitting for 45 mins I gave in and my best Dukes of Hazard impression across the median with no problem. The guy in the pick up who tried to follow me didn't even make it half way. My 75 mile trip home from work included highway, main roads off the highway, and eventually unplowed back country roads due to the above mentioned idiots crashing into each other and closing roads. It took me 4 and a half hours, but I just plowed through everything with confidence better than expected.
