Best Steering setups?
I Just recently purchased a Rubicon Express 4.5 superflex short arm lift kit. I am looking to put a heavy duty steering kit into it. The people from 4WP recomended a rugged ridge steering kit and what I’ve heard is that it isn’t good. What i’m looking for is a kit to replace tie rod, drag link assembly that comes with a damper. People have said Rusty’s is good, Iron Rock, or Cavfab. Just curious to think what everyone else thinks. Lastly do you guys think I would need a drop pitman arm?

What tire size are you going with? From what I've read, anything under 35's you'll be just fine with upgraded ZJ steering unless you're really beating on it
Im probably gunna be running 33’s ive heard people say ZJ. Is there a kit though? Or am I just pulling it out of a ZJ? Im looking for something over the knuckle with a damper that was replace my tie rod and drag link and all the hardware

Just go on Rock Auto and order all of the steering parts for a V8 ZJ. I am running the ZJ setup with 35s and a 6" lift, I also had to get a 1" drop Pittman arm and relocate the swaybar mounts.

you only have to drop the pitman arm, if you have a trackbar drop bracket installed. gotta keep those two angles in the same line.
and i believe a ZJ pitman arm has enough drop to match a double shear trackbar mount. i could be wrong tho, it's been a while...

The drag link, from the pitman arm to the passenger side knuckle is the same for the ZJ and XJ. All you willl need is the tie rod itself to beef it up. I would recommend staying away from heim joint steering. The joints wear out and many of the kits have very poor geometry.

i have rusty's, but i sleeved it with some DOM tubing. the stock rusty's setup is pretty weak, i was flexing it running 36 irok bias on beadlocks at lower tire pressure. now it's pretty stiff, however, the TREs are still pretty tiny, but do ok for now.
