Sloppy Steering After Lift
I put a 4.5 in Zone lift kit on my 99 xj and after i got a front end alignment the steering got very sloppy and is floating a bit. Is there a heavier duty tir rod and drag arm kit i can buy or did the alignment guy just screw up the job. The track bar is good because there isnt play in the steering when the jeep is parked. Any ideas would be helpful.

there may not be anything wrong. you raised it 4.5" and changed the center of gravity. you can double check all the steering and suspension parts just for piece of mind.

with a 4.5' kit in the end your gonna havat replacing almost all your steering parts anyways steering stabalizer trac bar tie rod pitman drop arm etc so maybe just start doing that? my steering isnt very tight after lifting mine 4.5' so its not much of a concern unless its overly bad

I lifted my Jeep 4.5" a Rough Coutry long arm kit it steers exactly the same. The drop pitman arm & longer/relocated cotrol arms keep the same factory geometry drives great I had some bad tie rod ends & had to replace wheel hub after side swipping curb at 40mph was fallin asleep. Definently check tres & your panerd bar its what centers differential under body if its loose differ can move mine came loose 7 wks after I hit curb very unsettled feeling.

did you take it to a regular alignment shop? often times they dont align it the correct way they put it to stock specs. take it to a 4wd shop they'll align it the correct way.

I lifted my '94 with a full 4.5" RC lift and have the same loose steering problem you are talking about. I have since just learned to live with it and adjusted my driving habits to keep my driving as safe as possible. I am interested if you find a fix for this. My trackbar is somewhat loose, but I'm certain that's not the only cause for this. My plans were to fix the trackbar and get a drop pitman arm and see where that takes me but I don't have the funds for that right now. Post and let us how you make out with this. Thanks

track bar. check it and tighten it. if you think its tight enough then tighten it more. or get a track bar with a heim joint on the end that bolts to the body mount. i did that and it got rid of 90% of my steering wheel slop.

put 3 inch zone on my 96 (and no it didnt come with a panerd) drove it from the shop home and floated all over. I aligned it the next day ( toe was off) and it drove great.

just put in a 3in rough country lift then decided to go bigger. put 2 in blocks in the rear and 2 in coil spacers in the front. the steering seems to be looser then before. would the rc steering stabalizer help keep me steering tight. you have to keep an eye on it when yr going above 50 down the road.
