check out the vid and look at the spectre.

this is with it at idle

That is really good info. Might have just sold me on buying the Spectre intake! I had concerns similar to Fred, but not after those videos.

Thanks,, Yeah it only gets hot to a little warm when it sits shut down. But once you start the jeep it pulls cool air in and cools right down.

Thanks for the posts, guess I've just been racing to many years and have always been an issue, all the way back to carbs and vapor lock.

The air in the cowl intake is moving when the engine is running, and it doesn't have far to go. Even if you heat up the tube itself, the cold air from outside is not in it long enough to be heated. Contrast that with under hood intakes, including the stock airbox, that take up air that has been heated by the exhaust manifold and trapped by the hood.

As for the chrome, a shiny surface traps heat coming from inside an object, but it also reflects heat coming from outside it. When the engine is running, that shiny surface should help keep the cool in and the hot out. If there were hot air being generated inside that tube, the shiny surface would make it difficult to dissipate it. But as soon as you crank the engine, any hot air sitting in the tube from heat soak is sucked into the engine, and you're right back to a nice cool flow.

IDK, on a stock Jeep, it is probably a toss up.
