Default Beefy steering, no sway bar?

Hey guys! I bought this XJ about a week ago (actually traded it even for my old K5 Blazer)...and was looking at the steering system installed by the previous owner, as I was thinking of adding sway bar quick-disconnects like I had on the K5. And lo and behold, it doesn't appear to have a sway bar at all! Anyone have, or ever seen a setup like this? It doesn't appear to effect the handling on the road all that much.

Thanks!

Kev

Looks like you have an RE lift. I run no sway bar with my RE lift and have no issues (we have different shocks though). I actually think I have less body roll then when it was stock with a sway bar. Some people run them, some dont. It is technically safer to run a sway bar on the streets though.

Forgot to say I didnt touch on the steering subject cause it has nothing to do with the sway bar. But yes you have a nice aftermarket steering kit. No worries there.

I meant to say that when driving it on the road, I'm not noticing any significant pitch or roll (swaying). I'll leave a sway bar off the Jeep for now and see how it goes. So far I love it!

I agree.
When I bought mine it was laying in the back, along with the entire interior. I was going to put it back on but I would have to remove or modify the steering box brace, so I left it alone. In normal driving it is not noticeable but on the mounting roads it is IF you let it.
The steering is alot like mine (used & abused) but you have the tie rod with the outer ends bent. That will come in handy is you ever decide to go with larger from brakes.

My comanche has no sway bars. My cherokee has front and rear sway bars. i notice zero difference in road handling. Dont worry about it not being there.

Good to know!!! The part where it bolts to is missing altogether to make way for where the PO added braces and frame extensions for the steering and front winch bumper, so I'll be running without them.

This is great work and is making me motivated to get on my own box brace and winch mount project again.

My rig, 5.5 inch lift, 33x12.5 tire I consider unsafe for windy highway use when my swaybar is left off. It makes a huge improvement when hooked up. It must drive very slow and careful if it aint attached.
I suggest you try a sway bar before you decide you dont need it.

My buddy with his cherokee has the same opinion as me, you can tell if it is unattached, and makes handling sketchy on the highway. Any quick advasive maneuver can become dangerous without.
