I did mine 2 years ago.Used plasta coat i gallon.I added 1 qt. of rustolium gloss black to thin it out a little and give it some shine.I just scuffed the paint good and rolled it on.I did the whole thing in about 3 hours, prep, tapeing and painting .Still has shine and is holding up great. The secret to keeping it clean presure wash it before the mud sets on it to long.I use a brush and car wash soap when it not to bad.It cost me about 150.00 to do glad i did best $ i spent ot it so far.

I bedlined mine a few years ago. It took me 2 gallons of herculiner. It's all in the prep work.
It quickly faded to grey and was a ***** to get clean, I ended up doing a rattle can job over it and it's much easier to clean now.

Would a smooth bed liner be a good option?

In hindsight I wish I would have used a smoother bedliner. I sprayed the herculiner on with a textured paint gun from harbor freight, it worked great but this stuff will take skin off.

Does the rattlecan over it do anything other than add color to it? Does it help preserve the bed liner at all? Make it easier to wash? I'm still leaning more towards a smooth bed liner. It a flat black color, it looks sick, and I can't imagine it being that hard to clean/maintain.

That it will lol. Best one so far was when two teenagers were screwing around in a parking lot and one of them pushed the other into my jeep. His arm was looked like he ate **** on asphalt.

I like it a lot better spray painted over, I know herculiner makes a UV protectant top coat but I decided I wanted to go with OD instead of black.

Well that sounds awesome! lol If I wanted a (flat/matte) black paint, would their UV protectant help me achieve that? I really like the idea of bed lining the Jeep, it sounds like it can be useful for mud and cleaning, although I do like a muddy Jeep.. I'm just worried of it fading over time and looking trashy.
Hurculiner is the worst bed liner product out there. Quickest to fade and peeled off the bed of my truck after 2 years. If you want to do a roll on, get a quality product. You will pay more but it will last longer and look better.
I used Duplicolors rattle can liner on my Jeep 3 years ago, one light and 2 generous coats. Mud and dirt comes right off with a garden hose and no color fading. No chips, no flakes, though if there ever were all it would take to fix is a couple passes with a new can.

It's all in the prep work. After 2 years I haven't had to touch it up in a single place. If it peeled off you didn't do the prep work right. It will fade almost immediately though.

i painted mine in od as well. if you do wantg to use a bed liner opf any type it is all about prep work. i used to be an industrial painter. get a product cal M-E-K it stands fpr methenol something ketone and it will strip anything to metal very fast. try to wear a mask with it and defenitly wear rubber gloves dont let it touch plastic it will eat it up really fast. be carefull and it should comer out clean and look good. as for the does it look nice after it is painted and then washed. i could care less about the cleanliness it is not sopposed to sparkle. it does the job i want it to

I used rustoleum bedliner inside and on the top of my jeep. Been just over a year and it still looks nice! The texture is much more fine and i really like the color.
