Bastard Pack Shock Issue
I installed my bastard packs a couple of months ago and am now getting around to buying/installing the new shocks. My research around here said that the JK standard shocks would fit and the length appears right but on the axle where the shock mounts the bushing will not fit over smooth part of the stud and get flush to the axle. When I took the old shocks off the metal sleeves were still in the bushings, I tried to drill the sleeve out to fit and it ripped the bushing completely out of the shock end, so now I have a new shock without lower bushing and sleeve. It seems pretty simple to me and I have ordered a different shock that is designed for the XJ with the appropriate amount of lift so I am hoping that I will not have the same issue, my question is has anyone else run into this problem? What did you do to solve it?

I have standard black jk shocks in the rear, would not recommend BTW, I just took the bushing from my old shocks wrapped them in duct tape till they fit snugly (I know it's ghetto) and put them on, ran into the same problem as you.

Thanks dude, I was considering pressing the sleeve out but destroyed it before I got to that point. I have ordered a similar replacement but for an XJ it should be here Friday so hopefully that will end this project. Thanks again.

I used the rear shocks from a comanche. Same bushing issue. I ordered new shock bushings w/ a 5/8" hole from Amazon. I forget if the upper shock mount had bar pins, I used BPEs.

Thanks for the suggestions on the bushings, I am going to grab a set to see if I can recoup some of the cash I dropped on the wrong shock. I have ordered an XJ specific shock to make sure it won't happen again.

Shocks both went in at the start of the week, drove it and it feels great. I ordered XJ specific shocks rather than fight with bushings. Now I have a new JK shock with no bushing, $80 down the tubes.
