Backlash for a Dana 30 should be between .004" - .008".
Did you check backlash in more than one location? I usually check in about 6 spots all around the ring gear. It shouldn't vary by more than .002".
Personally, if it were me, at .003" I'd leave it alone. That's close enough.
If you're the type of person that's going to be irritated about it then I'd run a couple patterns. If it looks bad reset them. If they look fine. Roll with it.

Alldata says. 005-.009. I only checked one place. Ill check it in a couple places. Ive never messed with gears i just figured id check them since i pulled it to install the locker.
