If your talking the little plastic dust boot that is on the axle shaft, & butts up to the axle tube. Your fine that just keeps dirt & crap from getting in the axle tube. The axle seal is in the differential, & you will know when you need to replace them, cause gear oil will be all over the tire!

Are you talking about these that you where given? http://www.4x4xplor.com/alloyusa-axleseals.html
Yea I wouldnt worry too much about them unless you do alot of mudding. If you have to do a field repair, its nice to know you wont get a bunch of mud/dirt into the diff when you reinstall the axle shafts.

How well do those things seal? I know they are not meant to be a regular axle seal replacement but I keep thinking these would work good for the passenger side shaft on a Disco to Non-Disco conversion.
