I know ya'll hate these questions but I have searched here and everywhere else til I've gone crosseyed, sorry.
'90 xj, 4.0, 231np, D30 front, and 8.8 rear 34" tires.
What gearing would you suggest. Thinking about regearing my D30 to 4.56 or 4.88 and getting a 8.8 and regearing also. I don't do any hwy driving at speeds over say 50mph. I trailer to the riding area unless it just a quick short trip to the store or beach. I know I'll have to buy a carrier for the D30 regear. I'm not 100% sure but I think I have 3.73 gears now.
I want something that will crawl good.
Thanks Guys.

I have 4.56's with 34" LTB's and I think it's perfect. Another guy in the club has 4.88's and just went up to 35" boggers. He does well with that set up too.
Either one would be fine. I notice on the highway the RPM's but it doesn't see much of that. 4.10's would be alright for 32's but I would go 4.56's at least. I do a lot in the rocks and I'm happy how it crawls.

Sorry, but with 4.10s his crawl ratio with an auto would be about 31 to 1
and with the AX15 it would be 42.7 to 1. That just isn't low enough for a mostly trail rig.
4.88s will be the best for your set up and what you state will be what it will be mostly used for.
I think you'll like the 4.88s, I'm running 35s with the 4.88s with an AX15 and it is as good as it gets without a doubler.

Looks like 4.88 will be good and I'll still have a little bit of wiggle room for when I get bigger shoes.
