Default steering box pop

Hey guys I have a 98 jeep Cherokee it has a 4.5" rc lift with 32 11 50 tires. I recently started trail riding it and now I hear a popping noise coming from my steering box. Anyone know if this is a serious problem? Thanks in adavance...Evan

did you make sure all your steering box bolts are fully tightened? after taking off my old bumper which had tie in brackets i didnt tighten the bolts that hold your steering box tight enough thus causing a similar noise. that should be the first place you check.

It could be a broken spacer. There is a spacer between the steering box and the frame rail.

Until you get in there and check you'll never know.

positive its coming from the steering box? track bars that have worn bushings or not tightened enough make a popping noise right there by the box

I have the same problem popping sound and also a lot of steering wheel play and I thought it was one of the tre's so I upgraded to 1 ton steering. And still have the problem, only pops when I'm stopped or going very slow and I turn in the opposite direction. Someone told me it might be a loose pitman arm or box bracket. I don't get dw at all. I am somewhat convinced its the box itself. I can feel all the play by twisting the shaft before the box.
