Hey all,
So I rebuilt my dana 30 and in the process cut and turned my axle Cs about 4.5 degrees positive to help my caster angle (was 3.6 degrees and she drove very poorly).
Now that the project is done, and the Xle is reinstalled, I'm finding anywhere between a 1 and 1.5 degree difference in rotation between the two Cs. Its far too late to change anything now, so I will be living with it. But I'm wondering if anyone thinks this will be an issue.
My jeep tracks straight again which is great. However it the steering wheel kind of darts left and right in my hands as I drive. Its not bump steer, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with bumps in the road. Adjusting my toe helped a good amount but its still very present. Also a quick caster measurement put me at about 6.8 degrees, which is less than I adjusted for, but oh well. That being said, I could still increase caster further with my adjustable control arms. Thoughts?

What did you readjust castor to? My first thought was that you might be towed in to much.
I don't think 1deg castor variation side to side will hurt anything.

How precise are you really getting when doing the alignment yourself? Just saying, if you are off a degree from cutting and turning the C's, can you really trust the measurements you're getting now? I'd have somebody put it on a rack to get a printout. A professional alignment is money well spent, IMO.

while I agree that it is a good idea to get a pro laser alignment with printout at some stage to act as a a baseline
I have found that the handling of my XJ is now very good, but I have to reset toe & caster every time I make alterations, so its a good idea to learn how
After rebuilding a specialised and expensive IFS, the kid would not listen to my instructions, and thought he knew better...tyres began scrubbing out immediately
If you add a 12ft straight edge, and make or buy a "camber/castor gauge", I can do home alignments that are well within specifications
My XJ used to shake like **** when I got it, now tracks like a dang Ferrari
