Default auto trans question

okay so specs:
96 xj 4 door 4.5 lift 33's 3.55 gears (also about 250lbs of add ons)

now that said my trans is acting odd (aw 4) it seems to be absorbing alot more power, and some times "dropping" out of gear and catching the gear... sometimes quite harshly if im going up hill, the tranny dose have a newish inter cooler (top of the line advance) running in line with my 3 row csf

did some searching and couldn't find my same problem, figured i would ask you guys, also it is my daily driver sadly

Crap I knew I was forgetting something it has ~180,000 and I check the fluid everyday,

I thought that too but at a stable speed it will do it, like its just switching to neutral... Then back to gear... Idk if you think it could be the cable, I'm 100% willing to adjust it... But it only dose it after 20 mins or so of driveing... I'm not seeing how it could be that...

sounds like my jeep, what gear is it doing it in? almost sounds like your lockup clutch in your torque converter is shot.

well, to be truthful it smells like it burning as well (clutch)... but the fluid is great, and im the first to say i know nothing about how a trans mission works, i know the parts, location, and how to replace

Cable adjustment. Probably not the problem but worth doing as it takes less than a minute to do.

The torque converter spends It's whole life transfering torque to the trans It's basically a clutch that pumps fluid they wear out eventually driving style has an effect on lifespan and load effects it also

He doesn't need gears until the trans is fixed and gears aren't required but they would help
