Default Aussie locker guys in here please.

Hey guys,
Well I installed my 8.25 29 spline Aussie rear locker a few days ago and I am just a little concerned. There are times when the locker is pretty decently loud around turns, other times it is a softer, more subdued "clinking". Left or right it really does not matter. Its been in three days now and took my roommate for a ride and explained maybe it only did it when it was "dry" first few turns etc... nope.

Now I was doing slow 3-4 mph tight turns in loose gravel and it never actually binded, but a few times I felt the inside tire skip and make small marks in the gravel when it was making its lout clanking sounds.... a few more circle laps and it was back to its more gentle, clinking sounds, no gravel turn up.

My confession to you guys is I did not measure the hundreth inch sized space between the cam gears like the instructions said.... Huge no no I know but this jeep has never been out of spec for anything, I honestly had no way or any provisions to measure said gap, and just wished for the best and that it was in range.

So post confession...... Does your locker ever generate an alternating turn sound or is it always a nice soft clinking racheting sound? I just fear a loud pop and a broken carrier or ring gear and I am nervous for upcoming winter. I assymbled the aussie 100% perfectly, did the locker test with the wheels off the ground, all was a ok.

I know it was a boneheaded move but if I just could hear input on the sounds your lunchbox makes it will put me to slight ease.

yup that's a lunchbox. it's gonna be loud and have mood swings. if you installed it right you're fine. I didn't even look at the instructions. just turn up the music or get a louder exhaust to drown it out

the noises do vary and the inside tire chirpping will happen cuz its trying to spin more than the outside. The noises will be normal and you will love seeing peoples reactions lol. but when you hit the trails your gonna be in love. A whole world of difference between locked and not locked!

I've had a Aussie up front for 3 years, it's always loud and sometimes a scary pop, but it's held up to some serious abuse with 4.88's and 35" tires....

The only time you get "soft clicking" is when it's jacked up doing the "spin test"

my rear 8.25 aussie was within spec but it did round the teeth on the locker. it made a few serious BANGS in 4low...and then it wouldn't even climb a small hill, it just kept popping, slipping etc. it still worked in reverse though....I got a refund and went with a Detroit.

but the moral of the story....you'll know when it's broken...good luck...for what is worth, i still love my D30 Aussie.

You will never hear it in the front in 2wd. In the back you will hear it click, pop, clang, and screech. Try to coast around corners. The second you was on the throttle the ratchet will lock, screech, then when the force is let off (to shift gears, ect) it will let loose and pop.

I am contemplating cutting brakes in the rear instead of a locker?

We will see.

Sometimes mine is silent, sometimes it's loud. It seems like whenever I'm in an area with people all around it decides to make itself known, of course.

Now let's go to Badlands.

Because your rear 2 tires will now be pushing your front tires through/into the snow (deeper fresh snow) they will have a tendency to break loose because all your weight is upfront. The restriction for your front tires to move forward is more then the traction your rear tires can supply. That's why lock the front first.

Good for drifting.
