anyone have any advice on this? went snow wheeling yesterday, and i had REALLY bad wheel hop when i was in reverse. you could see in the tracks i made that my rear diff was literally bouncing up and down.

should the bar go to about where the t-case u joint is? or just to where the front of the leafs attach frameside? is longer better? what size of tubing and joints would be adequate? should i try to center it between the wheels as best i can? i've seen other set ups on other forums, but it seems like guys just wing it and it works. i guess i'm just looking for some rules of thumb here.

Most times wheel hop in snow means you need lower tire air pressure.

wheel hop is a result of rear leaf springs unloading under pressure. when your vehicle moves forward or backwards it puts an arch / twist in the leaf springs and when you loose just a little traction the tire spins and the leaf unloads causing the rear to jump and hop.

traction bars mounted towards the leaf springs will hinder articulation but are the most effective and easiest to fab - sams offroad and skyjacker both make a center mounted traction bar for CJ's and YJ's that may be able to get fabbed to a XJ. talk to lead foot on here , he had talked about making one that mounted near the diff and also acted as a drive shaft and yoke protection / skid plate. iv seen that done several times and it works great and with proper joints does not hinder flex.

Its pretty common in snow, unless it happens elsewhere I wouldn't worry about it

personally I have RE leaf packs and ruffstuff perches/ubolt kit. I wheel it hard and I think I've only got the rear axle bouncing once. Dan claims the 8" long perches help with axle wrap
