What year?
Newer XJs only have two o2s, unless it was a Cali Jeep...
One before cat, one after. I live in Georgia and they don't even check for the Cat, but you'll probably fail based on whatever the PO did to avoid the CEL. I'd bet the CEL is probably actually on, there's just no light... which would show up in the computer.
Either that or he's modded the downstream o2 sensor/wiring...
Basically, buy it, buy a high-flow cat, take it to an exhaust shop, have them put in bungs for the o2 sensors, and then plug them in..

Is it wbarnhills? Somebody in the GA thread was selling a 4.6 stroker I think.
Also, somebody else might need to chime in.. 2000s came with pre-cats. I don't know ANYTHING about them, so I can't give you any input. I dunno if they would need to be put in or anything. Though, it should still only have 2 o2 sensors.

I believe the Jeep has the pre-cats each with an O2 sensor. Does it have a regular cat too or just the pre-cats? Maybe it doesn't need anything after all!
EDIT: And thanks again for the help and quick answers

I have a Flowmaster 40 Delta Series muffler and another unkown brand cheap second muffler instead of a cat(Previous owner swapped the cat with a muffler, I don't know why). Delta series fm's are quiter than super or original series as you know, but I like the sound. And I want to dump the second muffler since it's rusty and old and god knows why it is there..
So, can I go with a fm delta 40 w/o cat, would it be too loud? I'm not from US, so don't bother warning me like "It's illegal!" .
Thank you!

Thanks for all the replies guys! But I already had a FM 40 delta, so I just deleted the second muffler (which was there instead of a cat) and welded a straight pipe there today. It sounds really mean with fm 40. And since delta series are quiter than original and super series, it's not obnoxious or setting off alarms .
