I just installed a Super 44 Offroad on my XJ and it doesn't quite sound how I'd expect it to. I have a hi flow Magnaflow cat that's been on for months. I also just have a turn down pipe on the muffler. I haven't customized a tailpipe yet. I was aiming for this noise:
Would adding a tailpipe, a tip, and breaking the muffler in make it sound like that? It's 2.5 too, btw.
Thanks

Yes, 2.5" should help, possibly a tip. I've got a 4" tip but I never heard it without the tip.

Never been a fan of slow masters or chambered mufflers in general. I prefer a straight through style for aggressive tones or turbo style for a quieter preference but that just my 2 cents

I liked how the Super 44 sounds, and it was less work for me to buy the Offroad edition.
I'll be going with a flowmaster 10. I am thinking 2.25" high flow cat welded to a 2.5" flowmaster welded to a 3" downturn tip. Does that sound Like it would work? The cat is 2.25 id so I would have to then get the flowmaster in 2.5" id then the tip would be a 3" id. Does this sound like it would fit? I guess I would also need a wider pipe for the o2 sensor hole. Where would I get one of those? Would the muffler shop where I will have this put on have one of these?

Ill help. Where are the connections being made?
The 2.25 > 2.5, you're fine. It's the 2.5 > 3" that is a stretch. Explain in detail how its being connected.
Remember, with 2.25" there is no performance gain. With Magnaflow, there isn't really a performance gain. It's 1hp iirc. The gain is in the 2.5". Now remember, with a gasser, unlike diesel, you can go too big. I feel, 3" is big for a 4.0l 190hp motor. You may loose power. So, again, where is the 3" going?

Although, it does sound nice.
The tail pipe cleans up the noise. If that's what you're looking for.
