And the front and rear driveshafts are designed completely differently. The rear is a fixed length hollow tube DS, while the front is a solid double cardan driveshaft. Comparing those two is like comparing apples to oranges. It'll hold up just fine.
How likely is it that the stock front end shaft is the right length? And is there some reference on just how equivalent the two shafts' strengths are? I believe you, but I'm also a skeptic so I love fact checking. I'm looking at a 3"-3.5" lift from DPG and the possibility of needing a SYE. Tough choice waiting to order a SYE kit though as this is my daily driver.

Thousands of people use a front shaft in the rear, it's the right length and plenty strong I've seen big hollow shafts like the xj rear twist, I've never seen a twisted front drive shaft, and the power is equally divided in 4x4.

Nice! What did the floor boards look like after that let go?

Idk, probably not good it was sitting on the counter at my local 4x4 shop, it's not an xj shaft, it's a bigger stronger shaft, just an example of a why the xj rear shaft being bigger doesn't make it stronger than the front.

It's the right length because the front is a double cardan shaft, meaning it has no fixed length. The rear shaft is a fixed piece of pipe, while the front is able to slide in and out which is needed, because the front yoke is at a fixed place. The rear has a slip yoke which means the yoke can slide in and out of the transfer case, the SYE makes the yoke a fixed place yoke so the driveshaft needs to be able to extend and contract when the suspension articulates.

I hope that helps.

I ran across a carbon fiber or fiberglass driveshaft at the JY this weekend. Thought about buying it, just cause it seemed expensive.

This is borderline lift question: I swapped in a C8.25 for my D35 but now the parking brake lines are not long enough. Or the housing is not long enough. Are there different length housings?
