Would the long arms require a new frame mounting place? I see that it comes with "3 peice assembly" which tells me I won't need to weld but I probably will need to cut off the current brackets? And would I need the control arms, or would stock be good? I'm thinking the 4" IRO critical path long arm kit with the doetsch shocks, new rear springs and the adjustable track bar.
Anything else you'd recommend? Sorry if it seems like a lot of questions, I'm new to lifting jeeps.

the 3 piece mount is the new transfercase mounting bracket. it also includes the long arm mounts. cutting off the factory LCA mounts is recomended as you will hit them when flexing or just driving..especially at only 4". i cleared them but only hit when full up travel..so i had a friend cut them off with a plasma cutter. they are very thick..the plasma cutter had a hard time getting through..

Hello all. I just found this forum a few days ago and now I have a semi-urgent question. Sorry for just jumping in here but I need to make a quick decision on new tires.

I have a 2001 Cherokee (last few months of production), 4.0L, auto, 4WD, limited slip, Up-Country suspension, factory towing package, 105K miles, owned since new.

I need new tires. I did a few searches here but did not find the info I need. The Cherokee is my every day driver. Also use it to tow my small travel trailer and a utility trailer. I would like to do some mild off roading.

A mechanic friend in AZ (I am in SE Pennsylvania, he owns a Cherokee as well) suggested three tires:
- Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza
- Michelin LTX M/S2 (it has the LTX M/S on it now, seems to be good tires)
- BF Goodrich Allterain T/A KO

I was thinking the Goodriches. My local mechanic is telling me this would not be a good tire for general use. He is suggesting General Grabber HTS.

What tires do you all recommend for general / mild off-road use? These are 225/70 R16 size.

I am not on a tight budget. I want “the best” (yes I know, a very subjective measure but you get the idea)

Michelin is by far the best snow/on road tire you could put on it. Quiet, long life, and a GREAT road tire and wet weather tire.

THe BFG's are a good all around offroad/on road tire. Good on wet and dry pavement. decent life. a little louder than the michelin but not to much louder better as a general off roader tire as that is what the rubber compound was designed for.

i have no experience with the bridgestones.


Depends on how mild your offroading is... I personally would go with the michelins


both tires are good for towing and that is not a concern

 

wow 3" shackles!!!! step away and get real leaf packs!!! also coils are only like $100 + shipping.... get real coils too... You want to stay away from spacers that big

Don't go with either of those, the Rubicon uses AAL.

Those Skyjacker shackles look weak to me, no reinforcement what so ever, and they're non-greaseable.

Go with Teraflex shackles, they're greaseable and reinforced although you can barely see the reinforcing in the pic, they're also expensive at $83, but you get what you pay for.

i second the tera flex shackles!!! theyare the best ones i believe you can buy on the market! beefy, greasable and i have yet to see something compare to quality. I run them personally and can vouch on their behalf

Another question. Looking at the Cragar V-5's. For the 30x9.50R15's should I get 15x7 or 15x8? Am I ok with the 3.75 backspacing?

i would go 15x8 if you ever plan on going bigger than a 30. 15x7 if you plan on staying at 30/31. 4.5" if you plan on staying at 30/31 4-3.75 for any tire size bigger in the future.

but yes 3.75 would still be fine for 30x9.5's
