Depends on the shock. Some can be either way, some can't. Check with the Mfg. of the shock.

Default rc control arm drop kit

hello CF,
So i just ordered the rc x series 4.5 kit with the control arm drop kit. I was wondering if the drop kit is necessary? Reason i ask is that i was reading on rustys and they said that the drop kits are not recommended by them due to the fact that they put stress on the uni-body.

so should i return them or install?

thanks

dont know why you would need drop brackets on a 4.5" lift. adjustable arms will fit a 4.5" just fine. get it up to a 5.5" and see why you would use the brackets. i would return the brackets IF you are just staying at 4.5"

I would factor in a SYE in your budget. I have seen numerous 99-01 come through the shop needing a SYE because the tc drop didnt work for them. if you dont need it then extra $$ in your pocket but if you do then its already factored in your budget. its a win win situation

Those drop brackets make the ride smoother and the rough country ride is pretty rough. There are a lot of people here that are sporting them and they all say that the difference is night and day. Some of those arms are a real PITA to adjust, but you should install the 4.5 kit and see how you like the ride. If you want it to be smoother than install the drop kit, it takes some of the angle off of the control arms and will smooth out the ride. It depends on how you prefer your ride and what you are doing with it. If you just got a wheeler on your hands the smoothness of the ride reallly isnt the most important thing, but if you are gonna have it primarily on the pavement then you should test it out b4 you return them
