I am looking for a lift that would be cheep. Looking to bank anywhere from 3 to 3.5 inches, this is where it gets kind of complicated. I want to do a budget boost in the rear with a AAL setup and do a legitimate spring lift in the front. Is it possible? like does a company sell this?

So after speaking to a few people around here, I have been hearing that with a little fabircation you can take the suspension front and rear out of a 79 F-150 and make it fit the xj, for both front and rear? Which would bennift me being able to convert that suspension into a long arm instead of paying for it

To kill several birds with one stone here. Old Man Emu leaf springs(made for ARB in some asian country) Are great quality and come in 3 different load ratings. the Light duty imo are just for someone looking to replace worn out stock springs and gain a little lift on top of that while avoiding blocks or shackles. The medium duty are for most users, and can be upgraded at a later date if you need more load carrying capacity(more on that later) and the Heavy Duty springs are for those who tow/haul loads of 1000lbs or more on a regular basis.

The reason I know all this is I spent a good month chasing down all the loose ends and figuring out which spring was right for me, how the different packs were set-up and I spoke to at least 4 or 5 different sales reps and to ARB USA on the phone. After all that I came to find out the light duty are thinner and will generally give the best ride quality while sacrificing load carrying ability and a small amount of lift height. The Medium duty and Heavy duty springs are both 5 leaf packs but the Heavy Duty has a 4+1 overload set-up where the Medium duty has just 5 leaf springs.

As for upgrading the medium duty springs there are several ways to go about it. As most of you know, leaf springs aren't exactly the most complicated suspension part in the world. Infact they're pretty simple. You could upgrade them for load carrying capacity at a later date by adding in a Rough Country AAL or an OME AAL kit. Another option is to find an overload spring off of some pick-up truck in the junkyard and throw that at the bottom of the leaf pack.

What I'm trying to say here is this: unless your XJ is used as a tow rig on a regular basis(in excess of 1000lbs tongue weight) the Medium Duty springs are what you need and the Heavy Duty would be total overkill and would also inhibit ride quality and ability to flex.

Nobody I know of sells a kit like this, you can however buy a set of front springs and then an AAL kit for the rear if you so choose.

Speaking of 3" springs...I'll sell you my current Rough Country 3" coils if you want them...they're in need of a good cleaning up and painting which I'd be happy to do for you or you could do that yourself.

PM me for a price on the springs if you're interested.

30s are the biggest you can fit stock without trimming.

The engine is okay, great for stock but I'd like to have more umph in the lower end...kinda like the 290 ft-lbs that a Cummins QSB 3.3 puts out at 1,600 rpm.

I'd say Bridgestone Dueler's. them or the BFGs...but you're NOT into how they look. Personally I don't give two craps what a tire looks like, most people only care how they perform.

I'm looking into doing a 2" lift, can I just get a pair of these leaf springs, http://www.quadratec.com/products/16090_5054.htm and a pair of 2" spacers for the front? Would I need anthing else? I'm wanting to replace the leaf packs rather than just get a kit with shackles becuase they need to be replaced anyway. Also, these come in light, medium, and heavy duty, what is really the difference?

Thanks guys

I think you mean the axles. I've only heard of 2 or 3 people actually swapping over the suspension also.

Yeah I was actually talking about doing the full suspension swap, well at least looking into it, just trying to look at all my options, Im deffinatly not against doin some custom fab work to make something adapt into a longarm...
