Alright, thanks. As far as shims go, is that something I need to be looking in to and if so what degree should i get for that height? I tried googling it but all I can come up with is for people with much higher lifts then I intend to do. The only knowledge I gained from those searches was to make sure they were steel and not aluminum.

i dont think you will need them unless your angle on your drive shaft to the axle is really off compared to the angle to the TC. you should probably wait and see if you need them. definitely get a sye though.

Doubt it. Depends on your pinion angle after the lift. I wouldn't think you'd need them.

2: whats a good check list for going to a 3.5 inch lift, I already have the springs, u bolts, shocks, new track bar, a new rear brake line for a yj, and disconnects for the sway bar.

Sounds good to me.

3: I've read about relocating the front brake lines, is that enough for the amount of lift I'm going for? If not what is a cheaper alternative to the pricey extended ones.

Front lines from the same YJ are longer than stock. 3"s doesn't usually pull the lines tight tho. Again, check after the lift.

4: Are new control arms necessary at the moment or will I be able to make it til tax season just fine without them?

Not completely necessary. I run 3"s of lift on stock length arms. They can wait until you have cash to blow.

Thanks in advanced for any help yall can provide.
Personally, at 3"s I don't feel like you'll need an SYE. I'd hold off until after the lift and install one if you have vibes.

Ok..............so, I was about to install my 2" BB today when I started reading the instructions and chickened out until a later date.
This thing is telling me to disconnect the front drive shaft, lower control arm, stabilizer bar link and shock from the axle, then the track bar from the sill, just to remove the coil spring.
Would it not be much simpler to compress the coil with a portable spring compressor, enough to slip it out?

Just disconnect the shocks and track bar and you can get it.

I disconnect the shock, tracbar and sway bar then use a spring compress if I still need it.

Be careful with those things. They'll take an eye out.

ok, so im trying to convince my dad to get a lift for my jeep. I want a 3" but he says that the driveline has to be extended. I know brake lines do, but drivelines for a 3"?? He also mentioned reliablity issues, specifically the u-joints. Can anybody help me out here?

At 3" you can get away with mostly stock parts. You may need a t case drop but you won't need to extend the drive shaft. You need an adjustable track bar to center the axle tho.

at 3" a t-case drop will suffice. you may not even need that. and yes, anytime you lift a vehicle, and specifically put bigger tires on, it puts extra stress on all suspension and drive train parts. 3" and 31's ain't gonna make a huge difference but you never know.

You can get a transfer case drop and at that height it will do everything you need it to. If you plan on disconnecting your sway bar then longer brake lines may be a good idea, but aren't really needed. You can relocate the brackets anyways. As for u joints, you'll be fine. Stronger u joints and wheel bearings are always a good idea. I'd suggest Spicers for the u joints and Timken for the bearings. You won't need to change those until normal maintenance calls for it. So a 3" lift and a t case drop and you'll be fine.

Go out and get a job, buy the lift yourself. Buy your own joints (u-joints that is lol). Then you don't have to convince him to buy anything.
