why not lift it? well yours a dd / mild wheeler. it will see dd duty more then the trails. you gas mileage will be horrible. why rc? if you are dd and not seeing much trail use why buy a nice kit.......

not trying to be rude but go to naxja and search rustys offroad. there are some horror stories regarding their kits.

Would a 3" suspension lift + a 2" budget lift be "too much?" My old man is concerned about center of gravity and the roll factor. I am currently runnin 32's. Has anyone noticed a handleing issue and an increase urge to roll? Any input would be great

you keeping the 32's? if so no need for 5". I run 35's with a 4.5-5" lift. low COG is best!

x2 you could run 32's on just that 3" kit with minimal trimming. If you dont mind the trim than you could definetly get rid of that budget boost

(holy cow we agreed on something)

i have a question about lift kits and flexing.

I have personally, never wheeling, crawled, mudded, anything 4x4 in my life (besideds climbing up a couple of stumps on stock height)

i have been looking at kits for quite some time and i really want to have my XJ be a rock crawler (not something thats gonna be like a spider or cost me 30 grand) I want to run either 33 or 35's but im not sure what kind of lift to get, i was eyeing a RE 4.5" LA, then a RC 6.5" LA because of the price, but now im going twards a Clayton 4.5/6.5" LA.

that being said, i love the idea of crawling/going on trails, but i want alot of flex without breaking the bank. any experience on those kits?

edit: I dont mind trimming at all, this is going to be a wheeler not a DD

you dont want alot of flex. perfect situation you want the front to flex as much as the rear. long arm kits are great for over a 4.5" lift because they provide you with a better ride. you dont buy a long arm kit for the flex it for the ride quality. short arm kits flex a ton to but ride rougher once you hit 4.5".

not a fan of RC because of issues with the bushings, quality of the springs. RE and clayton have been around and provide excellent products that wont need to replace bushings in 10 months time.

Why would someone NOT want a lot of flex? unless its a mud truck.....

let see.... ummm..... why do people have limiting straps on their rig? coils come out so why have a ton of flex when all it does is unseat your coils. thats why a wheeler limits their flex

ride quality im used to a cj7 with the stiffest leafs in the world on costa rica roads, ride quality isnt a issue with me (jeeps shouldnt ride like a cadillac)

i really only want to do this once, i dont wanna rip it apart 40,000 times to make it right

I am looking at getting a 98-01 cherokee and lifting it only enough to run stock rubicon wheels and tires. I will not trim fenders at all because I dont like the way it looks personally.

Also, I will not really be doing any wheeling at all so this will be a daily driven rig. What kit, if any, will I need for the best ride possible. (I know it is a jeep)
I would like to get this all done the first time correctly.

thanks alot.

well yes, but most people have no need for limiting straps. one of the bigger reasons most people run limiting straps(see buggy's that don't have coil springs or have coil-overs) is to avoid the risk of over-extending a shock and thus ruining it. On most rigs the shocks will run out of travel way before you run the risk of completely un-seating a coil.
