You'll never know if you don't ask. A block lift on any vehicle adds another possible point of failure. They can shift position or break, and though it isn't common, I wouldn't want it happening to me. Besides that, Cherokees have very soft leaf springs, and they are prone to axle wrap. Blocks make the wrap worse, bending/wearing out the springs and in serious cases causing breakages. Here's a quote that explains it from another forum:

Hi everyone. I just put a 4.5 inch RC lift on my XJ. I put new 4.5 leafs on it and what I am seeing is that the front eyes of the leafs have about an inch of wiggle room in there mount. Every time I pull out or back up while turning I hear a moderately loud clunk. Ive had someone watch the springs when I do this and the clunk is coming from there wiggle room in the mount. They slam to the other side and make said sound. I'm wondering if this is a manufacturing error or are all the leaf pack front eyes thinner than stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

While removing your old springs, you have accidentally bent (it happens alot especially when the bolt is seized to the bushing sleeve) the frame bracket. Just knock the bracket back and you should be good.
This is what i'm talking about.

Taller side should be on the passenger's side to compensate for the engine torque.
Someone please confirm.

You may have gotten it the other way round.

I'm trying to find the website for reference, but I'm having a hard time finding it.
Hi all! First post is in here. I've had two different ZJ's, neither of which was modified. I'm getting ready to get an XJ since my wife can't drive a stinking 5spd (my outback). I'm trying to decide which way to go. I want to lift whatever I get. There's a local "Jeep" dealership here that will do a 4.5 RC lift, wheels, tires for $2k. Since I'm pretty handy I think I could save a ton of cash doing it myself. I saw an XJ the other day that had 33's and it looked great, but I'm a bit worried about it fitting in the garage with my wife's 2012 Optima (width-wise). I'm wanting something that doesn't get completely awful gas mileage as compared to stock, and I don't want to change the gearing. I'm thinking 31's or 32's will be the best, but I wasn't sure which lift would be the best for 32's, if I go that route. I plan to do the occasional mild to medium wheeling, but not a ton. I've looked at rough country and Rubicon Express, and both options seem good. I'm not all that worried about price and want to do it right the first time. Suggestions?

Honestly once every couple/few months. Nothing too too serious, but my friend has a stock JK and I'd like to keep up with him. I had thought about a 3" rough country on 31x10.5 but wasn't sure how much that would help. I found a dark red XJ on 33s I'm in love with but I do a lot of highway driving and couldn't handle that. So would the RC 3" work, or should I go RE 3.5"? Shouldn't either of those be more than enough on a 31" setup? I'll go with leaf packs too btw...I've read a ton on here and found aal's are a mistake...
