Just bought an 89 Comanche sport. Base model w/4.0 straight 6. I want to put some 36" tires on it, and so my question is what kind of suspension mods will I need to get that done? How much lift? Any kit recommendations for a fella on a budget? Thanks. (posted this in other vehicles forum, but was told I could post for more replies here)

I was just listing the minimum parts to get it up in the air. That's all I cared about when I did the XJ, and I understand why they're trying to skip on the track bar. You know I tried to find any way around it that I could, but you plain and simply have to replace it. But I'm gonna blame the rollover on my LCAs from now on.
For 36s? You can hack up the bed and the fenders with an angle grinder, do a spring-over-axle conversion in the rear, and lift the front 5.5" to match. You won't even need new leaf springs. If that truck is in good shape, though, I beg you not to cut it up like that.

When I swap in my 8.8, I'm gonna have someone weld the SOA pieces on.
Kinda of a stupid question to but the front of mjs are the same as xj right?
Edit: for some of the other comment: my plans are to go to 6" on 33's-35s (with trimming), slip yoke, for sure soa lift (dont like leafs being under really, drop barackets and long or adjustable arms.

As for the angle of the perches, I'm gonna wait and do my axle swap and lift at the same time so we can lift it, then install the axle, measure, uninstall it, weld perches and shock mounts, and then install again. Everything in the front suspension is exactly the same as an XJ, but the leaf springs and shackles are different lengths. You can order XJ front lift components, but not the rear parts.

If I am putting in a new 2" lift. Is it advised that I buy new shackles? I have new bushings for them. The only reason I don't want to is because I don't need extended shackles. I'm perfectly contempt with just 2" at this point. But if you guys can throw any advice at me, maybe I'll change my ind! let me know what you think!
