they are pressed in, splined studs, so they won't unscrew, and a hammer will not do the trick (you'll just bend the tabs). You need to use a puller (ball joint press or pitman arm puller) to press the stud out of the hole. It's a PITA.

Hey y'all my name's Eddie and I'm new to the Jeep community. I'm about to buy my future brother in laws black 2001 Cherokee 4X4 4.0L and I have a few questions. I want to lift it and I've been reading a lot of the posts the past couple days and I think I've figured out what I need. I don't want to get crazy big just a 3" lift with some wheels on 31" tires. This is what I want http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_3x.html but is there anything else i would need? As for the wheels and tires I'm completely lost. I want 31" tires on 15" black rims but I'm not sure about the bolt pattern and how wide the rim has to be. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That kit is pretty complete. I strongly suggest you get the kit with the full new leaf packs though, not the add-a-leaf (they tend to sag and ride terrible). I also advise getting the adjustable control arms if you have the cash, but it's not absolutely necessary.
Additionally you'll need to get a new adjustable trackbar to match the lift height.
http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep-adj...-bar_7572.html from the same seller - personally I like Iron Rock Offroad for trackbars.
As for wheels and tires, you're going to want to look at 31x10.5x15 tires, and for wheels you want 15x7,15x8, or 15x9 with a 5x4.5 bolt pattern, and between 4-5" of backspacing.

Thank you for the help. The kit that I posted only came with an add a leaf and for an extra $264 I could get new rear springs, is that something that I should do? Also, since I should get a full new leaf pack should I go with a completely different lift or buy the leaf pack separately?

Cool thanks for the help! I appreciate it!! Do I have to buy the 4-5" spacers separately too?

The backspacing is a characteristic of how the wheels are built that you buy - it's the horizontal measurement from the inside lip of the rim to the mounting surface where it bolts up. The less backspacing you have, the further the wheel/tire will be away from the truck. The stock backspacing is about 5.25", but since you're putting on wider tires and getting new wheels, a backspacing between 4" and 5" is more appropriate and will prevent the tires from rubbing when you turn.

spacers? Are you talking about the backspacing thing?

do some research, read reviews - depends what you want to use them for and your driving style. There are literally thousands of tires out there.
Tirerack.com has great reviews and surveys of each tire they sell, i'd start there
