I'm looking to get new tires and rims. I've been reading all about rim width and backspacing and am getting more and more confused as i go along.
I want to get a wider stance but keep the suspension stock for at least another year. I plan on trimming the fenders.
So the question, should i get 15x8 with 3.75"-4" back spacing or could i fit as much as 15x10 with 4.5" or less?
I'm thinking 15x8 with 3.75" backspacing rims and 235/75/15 tires. I believe that would fit no problem, but would it give me the wider stance i'm looking for? or do you, the people of cherokee forum, have a better suggestion?

I doubt it'd help but I have a stock height 87 with those sized tires with no backspacing if you want to see it. Just the bigger tires alone improved the looked, but I don't think mine would be wide enough for your taste. 3.75 would probably kick the tires out a little further than the body.

 

I ran 235/75/15 stock height with 15x8 with 3.75 backspacing you definitely wouldn't want to put a 235 width tire (9.25") on a 10" rim. Would be stretched. No trimming was necessary for me.

 

If your planning on lifting eventually for say 31x10.50's or larger go 8" w/3.75" bs. The other day I got to see 235's on 8" rims. Wasn't crazy about the spread of the tire so since I'm staying with 235's I'm going with 15x7's w/4" or 4.25" bs.

 

I just bought a 97 xj with a RC long arm kit installed
My question is . It has a 2 inch t case drop welded to the sub frame. Is this even needed it has a sye installed. It looks like crap the shifter has been charged and hit the dash . can't get the t case to shift in to 4 low . It's a 5 speed 231 t case just not sure if I should cut the spacers off or start on the shifters . the exhaust is all rigged up because of the drop and the fan hits shroud occasionally. The jeep is on 33 and goes down the road great drives good .
Any help would be appreciated. The reason I bought this is it's a 2 door 4.0 5 speed with zero rust in The north east . Never seen a winter.

 

Get that janky *** TC drop out of there. That'll probably fix your TC shifting issue, and it'll fix your fan shroud clearance. Then run the exhaust properly (if it needs to be redone), and see what you still need. And no, you absolutely do not need a TC drop with an SYE. It's plain ignorant

 

Getting ready to order rims and tires. Dumb ? about the Black Rock Dune rims in 15x7 w/4.25"BS Any disadvantages? Haven't seen anyone using them. I just like the looks over the D's and Soft 8's.

I have some black rock 909 rims, have held up to all of my abuse so I'm satisfied. Good bit of rock rash on them now.

Hey Guys,
I was hoping to get some input. I finally have the money to get a lift for my 89 xj. Im looking at the RE 5.5in. The kit comes with alot, but i know i also need to get shims to adjust the angle of the rear axle, and a SYE and CV shaft. That fancy chart about lifts says i also need aftermarket steering but im not sure what that entails, so any help with that would be appreciated.
Also, i have fairly new 30's on and i don't want to go get 33's on the jeep until i've worn those out. Are there any stability issues with running 30 x 9.5 with a 5.5in lift? Also, when i do get the 33's I'm regearing to 4.56.
If any one sees issues or anything i missed, your input would be greatly appreciated. As always, thank you.

 

is that a long arm kit? Imo you should really go long arm any higher then 4.5 inches.

And if you're determined to go 5.5" cool, buy the kit. But I would sit on it, save up while you wear out those 30X9.5s man, buy the gears and 33s and do it all at once.

It would drive ok, but 5.5" lift and 30" tires... is gonna look really really REALLY stupid.

 

Alright, thanks for input. A little too rich for my taste now, so I think I am just going to go back to my original plan of RE's 3.5in

 

I just bought my 98 cherokee a few weeks ago. The seller told me it was a 3" lift. It appeared that the front was sitting higher than the back, so I took some measurements compared to the stock height I found on here, and discovered the front is actually lifted 4.5 to 5" and the rear is only about 3" over stock. The rear currently has just the stock leafs (atleast i think they're stock, 4 of them anyway) on an extended shackle.

what would be my best / most economical way to raise the back another 1.5" or so to be level?
Add-a-leaf? New leafs? I've read about using s-10 leaf springs?
