Default Tire Reccomendations for 4.5" Lift

I have a 4.5" lifted XJ. At the moment, I have small tires that appear to be stock with wrangler-like rims. I am hoping on getting 31" or 32" tires without changing the rims. I'm tight on money so I'm hoping that I can get a set of 5 tires (4 on car 1 spare) somewhere around $1000. I also do not want to do any fender trimming. Since this is also my daily driver, I am looking for all-terrain tires that have good street behavior and the ability to go on some moderate trails. The type of off-roading I do is sandy dunes and dirt/mud trails. I'm not looking for a super-grip rock crawling tire or a mud tire. I have been looking at BFG tires but I don't know what to get that will fit. Any recommendations?

31's are gonna look small with a 4.5" lift

But that's about as big as you can fit without trimming in a XJ if you plan on off-roading since they are plagued with small wheel openings

Alright, I can't make up my mind on this so opinions are wanted. I am pretty much sold on the Powertrax No Slip for the rear axle. Cheapest I found is $455. Not sure what to put on the front at the moment. Maybe another Powertrax?

I can get two Lokka's for rear and front for the same price. I know the Lokka is suppose to be more noticeable as far as sound goes (clicking). I just wondered how loud and obnoxious the clicking is when on the street.

Selectable lockers are nice but not in my price range so that is out.

I have lokkas front and rear and you will hear them. As far as being obnoxious, the clicking is the least of you problems. Even on the street the rear one will act like a spool while under power, you will be chirping tires while you click and pop your way around town. I love it

Clicks and pops or just barks the tires? I was under the impression the No Slip was suppose to be quiet on the street from everything I read about it.

My Aussie in my 8.25 is great. I can give a decent amount of gas around corners and not chirp tires even with 235s. Works awesome offroad too.

Default Tire question from Forum and Jeep newbie!

Hi all,

As a newbie from South Africa to both Jeep and this forum, I have what is probably a dumb question for you: I have just purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 2012 model. This comes with the 265/50R20 tire as standard, but this would not really be so cool for any off road activity so I want to get a spare set of rims and tires that I would swap over accordingly.

I have been offered a set of rims and tires from a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited and the size is 255/75R17. Would these fit on my Grand Cherokee or are they too tall for the clearance in the wheel arch? I think that the PCD is the same?

Look forward to your help!!

Cheers

Tony

Default Best way to adjust control arms after installation?

Was in a bit of a rush yesterday and wound up removing both control arms to get the springs in and then just adjusted them out until they fit. My axle is now pretty far off alignment and just want to see what the best way to adjust the arms would be. I have adjustable x-flex arms from rough country.

Heres a good breakdown of the two tires. The tires on the 17's are a 32x10.5 equivalent, the 20's are a 30.5x10.5 equivalent. So depending on how tall the ride height is and how big the bump stops you'll either be ok, or you'll be rubbing. Also, whats the backspacing on the two sets of rims?

Sorry for bump, just don't want it to get too dark out.

you can fit 32's on 4.5" but gonna have to trim some for offroad use. BFGs are awesome. My dad test them at michelin and we run them on our TJ and my XJ and his Yukon and they're great. Great grip, quiet and good wear life

Edit: that's the All terrain KO's not the mud terrains
