Default Hello guys

My Car:
Jeep Cherokee XJ 2001

I have a Rough Country 3 inch Lift Kit:

Shocks (front/back)
Coil Springs
Leaf Springs
Leaf spring straps
Longer Leaf Spring Bolts

Subject:
So basically i have a big dilemma because this shouldn't be an issue. I need some help (i really would appreciate it) if someone with experience can get back at me. I'm asking probably the same questions but with 1430 pages, its alot of material to read through to find the right stuff. i DO apologies in advance if i offend anyone. i just want someone to confirm my research.

I have experienced some vibration issues from what i think is my driveshaft, it is very mild but i have 150,000 on the car and i dont want to run into issues if i floor the pedal. After reading MANY posts, the vibration issue can be fixed by either a SYE or a Transfer Case Drop.

Side Note: In addition I have seen that my Drag Link is Toast, and didn't want to go with an OEM before i knew if there was a better aftermarket part out there, this raises concerns for death wobbles.

So here are my Questions for my 3 inch Rough Country Lift, and please bare in mind that all my questions relate to a 3 inch lift:

**Bare in mind that this car will be daily driven on highways and city roads, sometimes to trailer my Subaru Sti, trail through offroad mud terrains, steep hills, large dips and sharp turns (for hunting trips). This car will never meet a rock unless it has to.

I thank you VERY VERY much to who ever gets back at me.

I will upload pictures of current state and upload pictures of how i fixed it..soon

P.S. The Rough Country Kit is a stiff kit, if anyone is looking for a softer ride they shouldn't go with this kit, as it isn't for the faint of heart............THANKS again and again.

      Holy questions batman.

1/2.) Why lift a vehicle to drop it down another 1"? If I were you, I would run a SYE kit and front driveshaft combo. This, along with shimming the axle as part of the SYE install, should eliminate your vibrations.

3.) I'm happy with my JB conversions SYE. Advance adapters makes a very nice kit.

4.) If you want a nice steering kit with strong TRE's and links that also gets rid of the inverted Y set up, look at the serious offroad UTK kit. If you want to stay stock, OEM parts aren't that expensive and you can run a stock Xj drag link and a tie rod from a V8 ZJ.

5.) Get new bushings for the frame side at the parts store then get some disconnects.

      6.) I don't like rough country.
      Get an adjustable track bar.

7.) Every Jeep is different. Lift it, get an adjustable track bar, and do an alignment and see. You might not even need a t case drop or SYE, but you won't know until you lift the Jeep.

8.) Read the write ups about death wobble. It could be a long list.

9.) No. I leave mine bare as a boot will collect mud and **** and ruin a shock seal.

I was running 2" lift and 33" super swampers for the longest time. Just trim your fenders a little nd you should be fine.

Beginning Note: The jeep is already lifted, i will upload pictures in a couple of hours.

First off thanks for getting back at me

1/2) I thought i would need a transfer case drop to re-align the drive shaft which was unaligned by the 3 inch lift kit; thus causing a vibration ?

If you're having a vibration then you can do a t case drop (bandaid fix) or a SYE (permanent fix). Have you not driven it? You'd know if you had vibes.

Thank you for the metaphoric distinction, it made a lot of sense. I did mention that the vehicle has vibes, maybe from my overloaded content you misread that part.

Yes i have driven the vehicle and these symptoms appeared:

            Why not 3.5" longarm?

So I think I'm close to finally getting new springs and shocks, but...Will new non-lifted springs sag just as fast as my old ones? And how fast would that be? Would I be better off getting Quadratec HD ones to last longer? And I hear you get an inch of lift from them? How much lift after settling? Ideally, I'd like an inch of lift front and back, with new shocks in back and stock springs/shocks up front, with coil spacers...So would HD leaves and coil spacers give me my inch AFTER settling, and not require anything else? I hear stock shocks are okay on under 2 inches of lift...Thanks in advance!

            Any opinions on these?

            http://www.quadratec.com/products/16033_018.htm

I hear these ones give a 1.5 inch lift before settling...What about after?

            http://www.quadratec.com/products/56010_11.htm

Oh, and do shackles kill your leafs as badly if you have HD ones? Why do they kill stock but not lifted leafs?

            Default Lift help

Hey guys, i am looking to lift my XJ, and I need some help. First, I do not know whether to go with the 3" or 4.5" lift. The Jeep is my DD, and i plan on running 31s or 32s. Will the Tcase drop be enough for the 4.5" lift to not get vibes? Once i decide on lift height, I am still not sure what brand to go with. I am trying to keep it relatively cheap. I am looking at either the Zone kit with full spring pack or a Rough Country kit. Thanks Guys!

First off welcome to the forum! T-case drop is nothing more than a bandaid fix. Do it right the first time and get a SYE. Rough country gets alot of negative reviews from here. Id go with rubicon express or zone...either with full leafs will be fine. Also if you are on a budget 3in would be your best bet. Alot less headache and 31in tires will look great.

Thanks for the quick reply drhoward! If I were to go with this kit from Zone on 31s... http://zoneoffroad.com/zone-offroad-...erokee/j23-j24 ...what other things would i need besides a track bar?

If it where me, i would get the upgraded shocks with that kit. Also id look for the following:
            Adjustable track bar
            Adjustable lower control arms
            Extended brake lines(F&R)
            SYE

You also might need a drop pitman arm for your steering at the least. I would reccomend upgrading your steering to at least new tre's and a zj tie rod.
If you run 32x11.5 on stock rims they will scrub your lca's and might catch on the stock flares.
Alot goes with 4.5in of lift.

Yup. Do it right the first time. Go full leafs. Lift first then see about the SYE. IMHO getting one even at 3" lift is beneficial for the sake of using a front shaft if ever needed as an emergency shaft.

Drhoward, I would be getting some different wheels. Do you not recommend the brake line brackets that the kit comes with?

I thought you'd want less backspacing???
