No, you need new bearings and seals/ crush sleeve and shims with the install kits. It would be very dumb to install used bearings and reuse parts in an axle, IMO.

Besides, when you install a new ring and pinion you have to RE shim everything.

I've seen a super 35 kit handle lighter 35's alright. Lots of driver technique.

I wouldn't ever personally out any money into one.

I forgot about the re-shimming. These jeeps are like plumbing. If you mess with it you might as well replace it....

What size gears would you recommend for 33 inch tires? I want to regain my lost fuel mileage as well as performance off road.

4.56's and my 33x10.5's have a good bit of power, run a little high on the highway, but I speed. A bigger 33" or 35" would be perfect for me, so I'm going 35's soon.

So 4.56 gears with an auto transmission is the way to go with 33x12.50's.

I think there is a shop up the road from me that is a Yukon rep/dealer. I will give them a call and see what they would charge for a gear swap. Maybe I can get enough tax money back next year to get this done.

Getting tired of the bad gas mileage....

Fellow XJ brethren, I think it is time to start planning ahead!!! Right now I have a budget boost (3" front spacer, 2" lift shackle) on my XJ, these were purchased because of price and I had to get the Jeep off my new tires because they were rubbing. With all that said I now have seen the err of my ways , the ride quality is horrible and I know those spacers won't last forever, but I want to use this time to my advantage and prep my girl for a bigger full lift (looking for a 4.5" lift this time) and I want to know what I need to get done to the Jeep before I install this lift. What upgrades would you all suggest that I do before installing this lift?

4.5" lift requires:
Front lift springs
Rear lift springs (with extended shackle if desired)
Lower control arms
Upper control arms
Track bar
Sway bar links/disconnects
SYE & driveshaft
Front and rear brake lines

So I will need a new driveshaft when I install a SYE? I have been eyeing up the Zone Offroad 4.5" full lift kit.

If you get a sye you will need the double cardan shaft, most often if you check eBay you can find a decent deal on a decent sye kit and driveshaft combo

I will keep any eye out on ebay. I would like to have all major upgrades done before I go to install the new lift in the Spring.

Thanks, forgot about shocks. I'd say wait and see at 3", but it's almost certain he'll need it at 4.5". It's a '99.

You can use a stock front DS in the rear once you get an SYE.
