Reason i ask is because i know the older 231 needs the seal however idk if the 242 is the same thing. Maybe the seal didn't sit right

And also im not familiar with the c clip style as oppose to the screw and washer. Hope someone can chime in

That was tough finding a picture. This isn't mine but is what I have. There is a thick washer recessed into the end and held into place with an internal C-clip. It's not a tight fit and the oil is leaking out around the edge. I noticed there is 1 spline missing on the shaft and I assume that was to lube the stock slip yoke. I'm sure the oil is coming down the missing spline and then come out at the edge of the washer. I took it apart and ATV'ed inside and out and that didn't last long. I'm thinking of welding right over the top of the C-clip.

This is mine but the angle doesn't really help with seeing the current issue

You need to fully flex out and measure. We can't answer that for you. Remove your shocks and flex and take measurements and write down after you get those numbers then we can help

When i just measured mine, i did shock eye to eye on flat ground and if i didn't get an extra inch from my latest suspension work, my long travel shocks wouldn't work and be bought for nothing. Make sure that at flat stance that the shocks have some up travel to prevent bottoming out and such.

Im thinking of a number between 0 and 13652.

That's what it feels like when ppl aren't descriptive. You gonna offroad. You gonna be drivin through mud. You goin crawlin at the mall. ABD-always be descriptive

I'm also looking into tires. I'm waiting on my 3.5" RE super flex kit and I want 31x10.5x15 on the stock Sport wheels. I don't deal with a lot of mud, mostly rocky trails. I've already torn the sidewall of one of my Michelin LTX's so I'd like something tough that'll get me home then cruise down the highway.

How do you guys feel about Wrangler Duratrac's, Wrangler MT/R w/Kevlar, or even BFG Mud T/A? Open to any suggestions, I'll pretty much be sticking to Tire Rack because so far they beat Discounts prices. Oh and of course cheeper the better!

Cheers!

Duratracs have weak sidewalls. I love my km2's they are holding up great and I wheel on a mix of granite and slickrock the edges of my lugs are all rounded off from wheeling but they seem to stick to rock better then my buddy's with Mtr's especially when it is cold out

Nice that helps a lot man, hows tread life?

I'm a bit worried about my lift...I thought I searched enough but I just stumbled upon more information and it sounds like more money spent..

Am I going to need a new adjustable track bar? Will I get vibrations with the 231 xcase? I previously read that only happens with the 242. And will I be able to put 31's on my stock wheels? Or do I need more offset? poooooooop I'm running out of cash lol it's christmas

IIRC, certain year transfer cases had a shaft that was lubed by the fluid inside the case, as opposed to the other type which wasnt lubricated at all which is what I believe that type of sye is designed for. So you may have the wrong year SYE for your case.

Otherwise, there is something else going on. That type of SYE should not have any fluid touching it ever.

You have what looks to be a Rubicon Express 1807 Hack n' Tap style SYE
