You're other option would be the junkyard. I'm thinking of swapping the column out of my wrecked 94 into my 96. I just like the look of it better and much like seatbelts and helmets I think airbags should be a personal decision...

As far as legal issues go, as long as it looks stock when you're done I imagine it'd be hard for anyone to tell the difference.

I have a column out of a 92 but the plugs don't match up ... Is there any way around that?

Not an easy one. Check for continuity on each terminal on both columns while testing the switches, horn, etc. to determine which wires control what. Then splice the plug off your 95+ column onto your 92 column. I'm guessing the wire colors should be the same for the like items (turn signal switch, horn, hazards) the later model should have extra wires for cruise control and to set off the airbag that you would not use.

highly illegal to ship...unless you are 150% sure that it is not getting on a plane and that it is in a blast proof casing.

My work ships them every day all over the place. Requires a different card board box and its a $25 fee plus normal shipping. Its expensive but can be done legally. If u just throw it in a box and ship it thats how u get in trouble lol

How's it going to go off without voltage applied?

Static electricity can deploy a airbag we have done it at work lol thats why it takes special boxes to ship and they have to be marked explosive

i have seen them go off just by being handled poorly and not even attached to a power source. also when they go off inside a package they r like a bomb. im in the aviation industry and they are not allowed on planes. its even posted at your local post office and other shipping places that they are not allowed on.

so ship it ups ground, who overnights an airbag anyway? wouldn't the seller be responsible anyway? As far as static electricity setting off an airbag through a box, I'm sceptical, but never say never. Rough handling seems just as unlikely, cars routinely crash without deploying airbags...

I'll bow out though...

New cars come with the option to turn airbags off. I couldnt image it would be illegal to take one out.

Only rigs i have seen that u can turn off are in trucks because kids or car seats can be in the front seat. Some newer cars have weight sensing system in the seat not enough weight and it will not deploy. It is illegal for any shop to disabled a airbag system. It is not illegal to do it your self. My friend does this on his cars because his wife is under 5 foot tall and it is not safe for her to have them equiped its not just kids there is a recommendations on weight and height when using airbags. But it is illegal to sell any car that came with airbags that u have removed
