yeah its not dumb to have one, ive had one for like 2 years and it made a huge difference when i put it on, you need to get some weather stripping around the outside of the metal shield and it should help some

hey man, why not put some vents or louvers or somehting in your hood where your intake is to get the cold air to it? they are fairly cheap and help you xj run cooler anyways

yeah you could do that, ive thought about that too but the other thing is with an intake if you do any water crossings its bad enough lol, you dont wanna make it even easier for water to get in there, unless you dont ever plan on doing any water crossings....then go for it

I have the afe setup and know for a fact it does not draw in much 'hot' air.

How do I know this?

Well, intake air temp also affects engine temp. After I put the afe intake on it runs cooler and if you get on it you can actually see the engine temp go down a tad. I have no mech fan so that has nothing to do with it. The reason being the engine is now drawing cooler air from outside the engine compartment and this in turn cools the combustion chamber temps a tad.

I've thought about that ever since i heard the cai wasn't much good unless it had outside air coming into it, but i figured if it where to rain it'd go right onto my filter, i dont do any major water crossings or anything just light off roading and some mudding.

Make some drip pans. Search, there's a couple threads on here about them.

Alright will do...wouldn't it look kinda wierd with a vent on just one side? Or if i do it should i just do both sides...i mean it cant hurt to have an extra vent to let some heat out and make it look perportinate.

Isn't the gray filter a dry flow filter?

Ya all aem's are dryflow, from what i read on from the previous post by gorillaxj that AEM is owned by K&N but instead of making oil filters like K&N they make the dryflow.

Sorry for the sarcasm without explenation.. See the real waste is the air filter, AEM/K&N can be a good performance filter, good flow, BUT the dry types are also among the dirtiest on the market. If you are going to run a dry filter, run any old school paper type, they are cleaner, you will give up a little flow, but if that keep dirt out of my motor, OK. You want a High Flow Filter run an oiled filter with a sock, and clean it often.

Ya i understand what your saying and sorry for being an ***.lol But ya this was my first cai and i was kind of in the dark and did some asking on here and all i got back was it doesn't matter what brand you go with they all do the same thing so i just got this one....but i guess i know for next time.lol

you can also get a "pre-filter" to help keep out sand and dust (the larger particles) so they don't clog up between the vanes of the filter. I know a lot of people who like them and say it makes it so they don't have to clean them as often. but i am skeptical to how much they really do...

I have a K&N intake. got it for free. it makes it a little better, (more smooth heavy acceleration) i wouldn't say i got more power just made my power band feel more smooth.... IDk tons of people have opinions with no backing. and mine is just that lol
