96 Cherokee
I just picked up a 96 Cherokee sport. It has been sitting up for about 5 years.
I want to see it I can start it tomorrow.
Any advice their I would love.
My real question is has anyone put a manual transmission into a two wheel drive Cherokee?
all the wright ups that I see are for 4 wheel drive jeeps
i am new to this group. Looks like their is allot of good reads
thanks in advance

First things I would do...
- change oil and filter
- inspect trans fluid
- drain gas
- inspect coolant
- inspect power steering fluid
- inspect air filter
Then fire it up. Lots more to check before you take it for a spin though. What are your questions on the trans? I have removed a manual 2wd trans and put a 4wd one in its place. You converting from an auto?

I appreciate your taking the time to help me. Yes I want to remove the auto and put in a manual. My question is how hard would this be with me keeping the Jeep a 2wheel drive? All the write ups that I have read were 4wheel drive
well i worked on the jeep today. removed the spark plugs and turned the engine over. i checked the plugs for spark. it was very strong. one thing i dont have is fuel. i think the fuel pump is bad. not sure is this is the correct thing to do but i unpluged the fuel lines and tried to crank the engine but i never saw any fuel. i also noticed that when i would turn the key on i could never hear the fuel pump prime. not sure how to check this so i guess i will just buy a new fuel pump. i did swap some of the relays around buy i could never hear a noise coming from the tank. still not bad for the first day.

Before replacing the pump, check fuses in the engine bay. I forget which one it is, but there is a fuse for the fuel pump there. My ‘96 fuel pump quit recently, fuse was burned out.
Cheers!

I have had Cherokee jeeps before. They were automatics. I just hate automatic transmissions. Plus from all the reading that I have done. It looks like an easy swap
But. If or when I get this running. I will drive it like it is while I gather all the parts
