Default 94 axles into 99 xj

Hi all,
Am a new member to the forum, but have been reading as a guest for a while. I've searched to an answer to this question, but can't seem to find it. I can get the axles from a 1994 xj, 2.5L, so 4.10 gears, it has an 8.25 rear, but that is 27 spline. Is it worthwhile to swap them into my 99, which has the hp dana 30, and 29 spline 8.25. I'm on 32's, so i figured it would be a good cheap way to re gear. Thanks for the help

Yes u can. It ll be plenty fine for 32's. U can swap shafts and spider gears I think, but don't quote me on that.

They will be plug n play. 27-spline is still a decent axle. I would do it.
If you really want 29-spline shafts, you may be able to find a good local place to setup the 29-spline carrier in the axle with 4.10's.

This will not work, as the carrier for 27-spline doesn't have a wide enough opening to slide the 29-spline shafts.

Yes, move the entire axle over.

You can upgrade the rear if you go locker at a later time.

Get them anyway, 4.10s are always in demand and not easy to come by.

I would also suggest you to discs while you are at it, KJ rear discs are bolt on.

Thanks for the replies, i appreciate it. Seems like I should go for it. Was Considering doing the disc swap at the same time. Is there any differences in the front hp30?

Front axle (and rear) will be exactly the same.

Change out the upper control arm bushings while it is out.....much easier and cheap.

You'll need a larger carrier for the dana 30 to gear to 4.10, specifically 3.73 and up carrier

I was planning to swap the whole axle which already has 4.10's, so that shouldn't be needed, correct?
