Im shopping for a winch and cant decide between an 8000lb or a 10000lb winch. I have a Smittybilt winch cover that I won at a show, so Im looking at the smittybilt XRC8 and 10 comp series, and the X20 8 and 10 comp series. But at the same time thinking I should just do a good investment and get a Warn. Possibly a VR8000/vr10000 with synthetic line or maybe even an M8000s or even one of the new Zeon winches. whatever winch I do get, it will have synthetic line for sure.
There are way too many possibilities!!! So who wants to help me decide?

I like my XRC8. Its been used a lot, submerged a couple times when it was on my Blazer, and is still working great.
The Smittybilt winch cover that came with it doesn't even fit it though. Doesn't fit over my buddys Warn either.

Did you use the winch while it was underwater? I would hate to do that to a wainch but if it needs to be done to get me out, I at least want the capability

I currently own 3 Smitybilt XRC8s. 2 of the old style (Which are junk) and one of the newer style.
The 2 older ones have lasted a good while. I got my money's worth out of them.
The newer one does just fine. It's slow but it works.
Having said that... I just bought a Warn M8000. If you have the cash, buy a Warn.

The line speed is a lot faster with the Warn M8000 right? and i guess the 8k rating is enough for an XJ? I have ****** block if i need it i guess

Line speed is way faster, it runs quieter, smoother... it's apparent that it's a better winch.
Yeah, 8k is enough to drag my 5000 pound Jeep all over the place.

Alrighty, well it sounds like I should just go ahead and get a Warn. Now, do I get an M8000s? Zeon 8000s? or a VR8000s?
More is always better. Check out quadratec. They have their own line of super fast winches. That's the way I'm going. They have warranties as good as the best plus lower amp draw. They have my $ when it comes the time to get one. Just gonna get the standard one then get the synthetic lime from discount winch line. Really stout for the price.

Well from what I have read, the VR is pretty nice and people havent reported any real issues with it, but it also has the same line speed as smittybilt XRC. The M8000 has a much faster line speed, and isnt too much more price wise. Then if I pay a little more I can get the brand new Zeon which is pretty cool. it has the same fast line speed as the M8000 but also has a full aluminum body and a removable solenoid box
