Default 85 or 01 Dana 30 hub/rotor/disc?

I am installing a 1985 HP dana 30 in my 2001 XJ (for the 3.73 gears)
I have the 2001 LP Dana 30 that I pulled out of the 2001 XJ
I am using the U joint axle shafts out of the 01 to replace the CV shafts of the 85

Question:
Should I keep the 85 knuckle/hub/rotor set up of the 85, or swap over the 01 knuckle/hub/rotor?
Any why ?

Is it a straight swap over?

Thanks for any insight,

Slack

For some reason I feel like I have heard that really old Xj's used a different and more convoluted brake setup, in regards to how the caliper mounts and what not. So if that's the case I'd go with the 01 setup.
Or you could go the extra mile and get WJ knuckles balljoints and calipers, use the hubs and rotors off the 01. That's what I have on my XJ, I just reused the stock steering for the Xj. The brakes are sweet.

You may have to check me but I believe that you may need to change the 01 hubs and rotors over. I'm not sure but I believe there is a slight difference in the hub mounting flange depth. If i remember right, it's like a 1/4" deeper on the late model hubs as compared to the earlier hubs. I did the cad removal and used an axle out of a 93 with no issues.

Another concern may be the axle spline count in the old axle carrier to the later model axle. Be sure to check that as well. I think the 01 axle will have a bigger spline count and may not fit in the old carrier. Someone here will know or you can google the spline count to confirm.

Kyle,
If you are using the XJ hubs and rotors,, swapping in the WJ knuckle, ball joints is just to use the WJ caliper?
What does the WJ caliper have over the XJ caliper?

Thanks,
Nick

I "thought" I had read that the older (84-89) used a roller bearing hub as opposed to the ball bearing hub in 90-2001,, Rumors that they are beeter bearings, but not finding any concrete info

My bad, I am using WJ rotors too, just had to use 01 hubs for them to match up.
The Wj calipers are bigger and dual piston and the rotors are also bigger. You can also run a better steering setup using the WJ knuckles, but it requires relocating the track bar and was more fabrication than I was interested in doing at the time.

OK, that makes sense, bigger rotor = more stopping power
