Default 5-Speed to Auto Swap Questions

93' Jeep Cherokee, 2-door, 5-spd, 4wd

The Jeep is a 5-Speed as we speak, I have found an auto trans and transfer case that have been pulled from an impounded Jeep. I'm wondering how hard this swap would be to do and also what else I would need other than Transmission and t-case.

I would guess the cross members are different. Also, you'll have to get an auto ECU/TCU unless you plan on ignoring that entirely and running a shift kit. Oh, and a pedal box swap.

Why do you want to ditch the manual anyways. We're not suppose to kill them, we're suppose to save them.

SAVE THE MANUALS!!!!!!!!

It's for a buddy of mine and he's constantly breaking U-Joints and axles dumping the clutch, he figured an auto would help correct that, considering mine is an auto and I beat the brakes off it and never break anything.

Tell him to sell the manual jeep to someone who will take care of it and buy an auto one. Save the manuals!

What is he doing dumping the clutch on a jeep anyways?

Maybe your friend should sell us the manual and buy a CRV if he's breaking a Jeep by driving like a fool?

Parts you'll need roughly include:
PCM/ECU
TCU
Wiring harnesses
Shifter assembly
Pedals
Flywheel
Flex plate
Torque converter
Transmission
Possibly a new input gear for transfer case
Transmission mount is a good idea

If he hasn't killed it yet you can probably find someone nearby who wants to swap in a manual and might trade the parts.

It's a Jeep, we don't *****foot around down here. We push the long pedal through the floor.

With a manual, you shouldnt have to gun it as bad as an auto. Sounds like he needs to re-evaluate his driving style cause theres no reason for dumping of the clutch. The automatic might be better suited for your needs then. You need the ECU, crossmember, trans n transfer, shifter, linkage, pedal assembly, a flexplate, torque converter, TPS from an automatic Xj, kickdown cable and sure theres something else im missing.

Who effing cares why he wants to swap? You aren't his parents, I'd just let him be.

Plenty of folks swap autos for manuals and manuals for autos.

Çheck around, search, I'm sure you can find a thread somewhere with detailed info.
