Default 4.88s in C8.25??

currently sitting on a 3" lift with 31s, looking to upgrade front and rear suspension to accommodate 35s (2" bb(maybe new shocks) and 2" shackle + some trimming), then of course hack n tap..

my question is i know the 8.25 is a good rear but can it take 4.88 gears? do i need a bigger carrier? or is it just worth it to get an 8.8 with 4.10s out of an exploder and weld the mounts on?

thanks
- mike

I have 4.88s and a locker in mine. I also trussed it and put rolled spline axles in.
I'd be more worried about the d30 in the front...

I'm thinking of going 44/8.8 but I do have a 8.25 27spline so I'm also wondering this, could save me some $$

do 4.88s not fit in a d30 carrier? or is it a strength issue? what would be a solid upgrade for the front that can take 4.88 gears?

For d30 you need a 3.73 up carrier.

488s will fit but need new carrier or one from 4cyl jeep with factory 4.10s

35s on a stock Dana 30 is kind of pushing your luck with 4.88s.

D30 carrier is $50 or something. Rwkhaus has 4.88s on the cheap.
