4.0 to v8 conversion questions
Would a v8 from a jeep (say grand cherokee) bolt in easier than a chevy v8? Or would the cost to power ratio be more effective in stroking the 4.0 to a 4.6?

Dodge motors will fit, but there is far more after market support for GM motors.
Also keep in mind that there is less room to work on the wider Mopar motors.
I've been down the stroker trail before, so trust me when I tell you that there is no replacement for displacement. Skip the stroker, go V8.

To answer your question,a stroker will bolt in easier than a V-8 because it was there originally.
A stock V-8 will have more power, upgrades & probably last longer but not a bolt in motor, therefore more money.

I was patient and shopped around.
Got a motor, transmission, complete vehicle harness, all black boxes and PCM for $850. Came out of an 03 Tahoe with about 80k on the clock.

The Gen III Chevy is the way to go, it's a great engine with unlimited aftermarket support. And that is coming from a Mopar guy.

Power pre hp you can't beat a small block chevy,The gen 3 aka ls are nice but can be a little pricey to buy and get swapped.I would do a 350 vortec heads beefed up 700r4 np205 twin switched.

Here's a good list of chevy and gm motors, trannies, and transfer cases that will fit in an XJ.

Biggest thing with a v8 swap that you won't think of is you need frame stiffeners. The unibody wasnt designed for the torque of a v8 and it will warp the frame over time, especially if you wheel it.
