Default 4.0 to 2.5 swap

Yes I know it sounds weird. I have a 95 xj used for mail delivery. Don't need the power from the 4.0 so I'm looking to swap down to a 2.5 to save on gas. Just trying to get some info as to what might be involved and where I might get the motor/ tranny if not from a wrangler

You won't save on gas. Not enough to make the swap worthwhile anyway. Speaking as a 2.5 owner, keep your 4.0.

That said, if you are dead-set and determined...

You will need the motor, tranny, transfer case (even though both motors use the same transfer case they use different input shafts), driveshafts, motor mount brackets, engine harness, and whatever else I'm forgetting...

But I still have to say it's not worth it.

Upgrade injectors air intake will pep up gas mileage.

thanks I was going to ask what might help the mileage. The 2.5 swap came to mind because I have a rod knock wasn't sure if I'm digging in to replace the bearings or just do a full swap

Unless you are already rollin with 4:10s you will need to regear. So add that to the cost of the swap.

Not a really good idea if you ask me

Might as well get yourself a lobotomy while you're swapping a 2.5l in.
