My XJ currently runs the Norm D30 C 8.25 combo.
I know crom what people say the stock Axles are ok but after looking I have not heard anything other than 33's would be fine with them.
What I want to know from peoples knowledge and experiance is if I am not going above 33's in my build would the axles be fine geared to 4.10 with lockers
or possibly 4.56's as I can get them for the same price. I am not building a rig that will take e anything bigger than a 33. I know I could throw in stronger axles but for what I am doing I dont see the need. Please chime in. I want facts.
Thanks

Where are you getting them done? There's a guy by Buckley AFB that did mine for $700. (Did you make that thread in Four Corners?) I had 33's and went with 4.56. It will put you slightly higher in the RPM's than stock gearing and tires, but 4.10 will put you lower. The way I saw it, with the added tire width and several extra hundred pounds of metal stuck on there, the lower gear was worth it. People complain about not going low enough when they dropped the coin on gears, but rarely do you see complaints of going too low.

700 for the gears and the install? Not to bad..... Illl have them done when I lock them. But my questions realy stems aournd the strength of the Axels. What I want to know is if 33's are going to be to much for my stock Axles if they are geared low and locked. I know stuff breaks I just dont want to be replacing shafts every 6 months.

01 is 29 spline 8.25 you should'nt have problems with 33s on that. Might want to find an hp 30 for the front depending how hard your gona wheel it. The lp 30 should live with 33s if you use your brain instead of the gas pedal to get through things on the trail.

The C/8.25 is plenty strong enough for 33s, like red xj stated you may want to pick up a HP30 before spending the money to gear and lock your axles.
I'm running a HP30 and a 29 spline C/8.25 and my tires are 35x12.5 r15 KM2s, and no problems with strength. If you decide to lock it up F & R you may want to go to alloy shafts though.

I've run 35s on my Ford 8.8/LP D30 on my TJ for 3 years now and I beat the **** out of it. Aussie locked front, factory LSD rear on 3.73 gears. It's a manual shift so that helps some. The 8.35 and D30 in our XJs should turn 33s with 3.55 gears just fine.
In a head wind, we're driving things shaped like a brick with 4wd, I wouldn't expect to win any races. But it's not that bad imho.
If you're dead set on regearing, go with the 4.56. 3.55 to 4.10 isn't THAT much different to justify doing, imho.
