Good looking XJ. The SYE is an upgrade, whether you lift it or not. From what I understand, there is an oil seal in the TC that can be damaged from a corroded slip yoke output shaft. Corrosion that could be caused by things like salt water. You know, like at the beach

 

There is a heavy duty and medium version. I bought mine from jeepinoutfitters.com. $140 a side. I have the medium 2.75 inch. Puts me level with the 3.5 rubicon express coils I have in the front.

 

Just go in expecting the ome coil to not be as tall as the leafs. If you want the full 3.5" you will get with the ome leafs just buy taller coils. I would recommend metal cloaks 3.5 inch coil. That's what I would have bought if I didn't get used RE coils for a good deal from my neighbor. If you are dead set on the ome coil you will need spacers in the front or to remove a leaf from the leaf springs if you want it to be level. There are a lot of OME threads on here. Just read all you can about the different sizes and part numbers before you purchase.

 

Ok so here 3 is a new thought. I see rustys has 2 inch lift coils. I already have lifted shackles so these coils with stock springs and shackles. 2 inch lift and spend on the best shocks possible. Or does anyone make 2inch lift leaf packs?

 

Or even bds or iron rock offroad 2 inch coil springs. I think I'll go the 2 inch coil springs route just don't know about the rear lift

 

You can go OME, then remove one leaf from the pack to get less lift. I don't know who makes a true two inch leaf.

 

Ok guys so I'm still on the fence. The ome give 3 inches of lift. Maybe just go with the rustys advanced kit and get adjustable upper and lower control arms, trackbarear, and everything else for around the same price. Let's say in the event I had vibes. I wouldn't go the transfer case drop. What do you guys think of this?

No matter your lift, or not, a SYE would be an upgrade. When I installed my Rusty's 3" Advanced, Rusty himself told me the SYE wasn't necessary. He said try the TC drop kit first, and kudos to him for not trying to oversell me, but I know a SYE is the most correct way of doing it.

On topic, I opted for Rusty's sway bar QD kit and had to modify it to make it work with the 3" lift. The shocks that come with the kit are crap, but so are all the other standard shocks. They are better than my old ones, and they are buying me some time before I invest in Bilsteins.

My rear springs settled in quickly, and I compensated with IRO adjustable boomerang shackles, which are greaseable. Leaf springs work better when flattened out a bit, but I'd liked to have known ahead of time. You said you already have lift shackles so you should be covered... If you want them greaseable installing some zerk fittings is easy.

Overall I'm happy with the quality and ease of install.

 

Ok I think I'm settled. Aiming for 1.5 to 2 inch lift. Going with stock springs from rocky road for 100 each and my cousin has some iron rock boomerang shackles he'll sell me cheap. For the front I would like a vote. Get 2 inch lifted coils, whether it's rustys, iron rock, etc or get stock coils and just put a spacer? Leaning toward 2 inch coil but everyone's thoughts?

They're certainly not the same quality as OME or Rusty's.
Although they are decent replacement springs.
Better than anything that Crown offers.

My jeep had the same leafs on it when I bought it, they are still on there as well.
Don't have anything negative to say about them.

 

I vote spacers.

 

May I ask for reasoning? I plan on ordering everything on Monday. I have spacers currently but would the 2 inch coil springs give a better ride? If not might as well just go with spacers

In all fairness, I have run 2 other lifts that served their purpose and I would buy again. Rusty's in house 3" lift with HD springs (Just for winch/bumper support).


The other was Fat Bob's Garage lift.
Pony up for rear springs and ditch the lift shackles- they're hard on your old/worn out springs. My springs were so soft after 140K, and then another 60K after the extended shackles, that they looked like an "S". You'll be happier in the long run.

 

So I am going to go ahead and get the rustys 2 inch kit with aal. The reason my cousin has the iron rock shackles to sell me was because he had them for a month and didn't like it so he went with this 2 inch kit and loves it. I figure with new leaf springs, the aal should be fine.
