3" lift Struts - what else is required?
Hi,
I'm thinking of fitting these all round: http://www.jsf4x4.co.uk/shock-front-...j-orv-gas.html
Is there anything else I need to fit to have a safe 3" lift all round, and will it drastically affect my fuel economy?
Thanks!
Benny

Make sure you get a complete lift kit. Shocks don't lift the vehicle coil and leaf springs do. Check this out for a 3" lift http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.co...53cacc4f106122
The Difference Between Shocks & Struts
In strut suspension systems, the spring is held by the strut, and the strut provides structural support for the vehicle. Struts are more common on cars than on trucks and larger vehicles.
Shocks, on the other hand, provide no structural support for your vehicle. They are mounted directly to the vehicle’s frame at one end and the lower suspension on the other end. Shocks are most commonly found on trucks, SUVs and vans.

It would be a good idea to take your Jeep to a 4x4 shop and let them advise you what you need and most likely do the install for you. If not done properly a lift can be very dangerous if not life threating.
Ok thanks everyone, there is obviously a lot more to it than I realised! I will keep it stock for now as I have some basic roadworthy work to do first.
Thank you for the kind welcome also

Hi Andrew,
I'm in South Devon, UK at the moment. I'm MOT'ing a Jeep Cherokee 2001 XJ 2.5TD to take to Northern Spain in 10 days and it needs a shock replacing so I was interested to know if it was as simple as adding longer shocks but clearly not

If fuel economy was really an issue SELL the Jeep and buy a little car. Anything you do involving bigger tires or more height will negatively affect MPGs
To use those shocks.... You will need to either install spacers or springs in the front that give 3" of lift and a combination of spacing and springs at the rear. You will likely also need to replace or extend the trackbar and swaybar links to accomadate the lift. It would be advisable to also upgrade the lower control arms and install extended brake lines. I would also recommend you service and or repair/replace almost all of the rest of the steering and suspension at lift time.
