Default 3" Cherokee lift problems

I just recently installed a rough country 3"lift to my 99 Cherokee. It still has the stock tires. I am now have a slight vibration at takeoff and low speeds and also a bad tire shimmy when I hit bump at high speeds. The 98 Cherokee I had before had the same lift at one point and never had either problem. I'm kinda thinking the vibration with this one is because of the transfer case it has in it as it's different than my 98 was which I could fix with the lowering kit. As for the tire shimmy, other than having the narrower tires there is no difference between this one and my old one. I even replaced the stock steering stabilizer. It helped a little but not enough. It shakes so bad I've had to come to a stop on interstate to get it to stop. This is a big problem that's gonnna cause something to break. If anyone has any ideas before I spend anymore money on it I would appreciate the advice. Thanks.

You need to check ball joints, Tie rod ends, track bar, tire balance, alignment, shocks, bushings, bearings, U-joints. Vibe at take off is the drive shaft, you need TC drop or SYE.

Well I went thru and checked everything in the front and the only thing I found with excessive play the the drag link end that connects to the pitman arm. I replaced it. The passenger side ball joints have some play but just enough that a grease job would tighten them up so no bad stuff there. My only other idea for the bad shimmy problem I'm having is an alignment issue.

Enough movement in a ball joint that grease can fill, is MORE than enough movement to cause Vibrations.

well, I wouldnt exactly say the vibration is what the issue is. I ordered the spacer for the tc to fix that. The shimmy I'm talkin bout, you can only feel slightly with the wheel turner in a certain spot. It gets so bad Ive had to pull opff the road before I could slow down enough for it to stop. The reason I'm leaning toward alignment is because up until I put the lift on it never had a problem. I have the same tires as before so I know its not that. If it had it before the lift then I'd go towards ball joints. Since it started after and only does it in certain situations, I'm not so sure.

I had the same problem in my 00 after the 3" lift. Get the alignment done,it will help. Just remember you can do the same lift in any XJ but the results will be differnt for all of them. After I got the 00 alignment done it was alot better. Double check the track bar as well.

x2 plus check track bar bushings for wear and replace your steering stabilizer.

Im having similar issues as well after a 3" lift. Did not have these issues before the lift. Rough country tech told me everything else could stay stock if doing 3" or below. Please help...

to the original poster. Did you have an alignment after the lift. If not, you need to. That wasn't mentioned.

once you change the angle of the driveshafts, the u-joints will be spinning on a different part of the needle bearings, likely not so shiny and smooth. this will get you some vibes. you can either put up with it, or change the u-joints.

also, yeah, any time you lift, you need to align if you are running the stock type inverted Y steering links.

and lastly, you may or may not need either a 1 inch transfer case drop, or a slip yoke eliminator. not likely needing the sye, but a tc drop might help.

As I mentioned in your other post, just drop the T/C crossmember down about 1/4" with washers. No need for a 1" T/C drop or a SYE/CV.
